What is the biggest change in marketing that you see coming in the next 2 years?
Marketing and media dollars will continue to shift from traditional media to digital media. As I have said in years past, I still foresee voice search continuing to evolve to become a dominate force in how consumers find and make purchase decisions. Omni-Channel strategies will be more important than ever as millennia’s age and Gen Z come into early adulthood; I anticipate a major shift in the way brands message these two audiences.
What is the advantage to working with an outside media buyer as opposed to having just an internal marketing director?
Working with an outside media buyer and/or firm provides brands with a number of advantages; including freeing up bandwidth for the internal team to do more strategic planning, access to more professional resources and/or platforms, and expert guidance from teams dedicated specifically to media.
What is one tip that you would give when it comes to media planning?
Your media plans need to be audience centric and client focused; don’t recommend platforms and channels to your client that aren’t a good fit for their business model or budget. You can avoid making that mistake by asking good questions at the beginning of your client engagement and performing quality market research.
How does a media buyer stay on top of trends with media placement?
A responsible media buyer stays on top of trends by consistently reading industry news, publications and blogs as well as performing independent research. Taking courses and obtaining certifications on each medium is also vital for staying current.
